Commercial markets for phosphoric acid are broadly divided into two categories:

1. Agricultural
2. Industrial

There are three types of phosphoric acid classified by different manufacturing processes:

1. Wet-Process Phosphoric Acid (WPPA):
   Acid produced by treating phosphate rocks with a strong mineral acid.
   
2. Thermal-Process Phosphoric Acid (TPPA):
   Acid produced by burning elemental phosphorus followed by hydration.
   
3. Purified Wet-Process Phosphoric Acid: (PWPA):
   Acid produced by upgrading wet-process acid through solvent extraction.

Based on purity, there are more than five grades of phosphoric acid available on the market today:

1. Food Grade
2. Technical Grade
3. Industrial Grade (Purified Green Acid)
4. Feed Grade
5. Fertilizer Grade

Users should investigate the proper grade of phosphoric acid for their particular application.
